Dr. LeFavi received a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education from the University of Florida, a Master of Business Administration degree from Nova Southeastern University, a Master of Divinity degree from Erskine Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D.) from the department of Health and Human Performance at Auburn University where he studied the effects of nutrition and drugs in weight loss and athletic performance. Dr. LeFavi has published over 450 articles on health, weight loss, sport science, drug abuse and fitness in the popular press. He has been an at-large editor for two international health magazines.
Formerly, Dr. Lefavi was Director of Health Promotion at Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach, FL. More recently, he was Director of Research for the Health and Human Performance Laboratory at Georgia Southern University, Statesboro. Dr. LeFavi has authored numerous research articles in scientific journals ranging in fields from nutrition to biology, psychology, health and sport science, and has made 30 regional, national or international professional presentations (including visiting scholar lectures). He has provided scientific information from his own lab to researchers at the United States Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration and Harvard Medical School.
In addition, Dr. LeFavi has been a consultant to the Federal Trade Commission, the National Council Against Health Fraud, USA Track & Field, and the United States Weightlifting Federation. He has also provided expert opinions to attorneys in cases involving ergogenic and anabolic drugs, has been quoted as an expert by many newspapers and magazines ranging from the New York Times to USA Today and Parade, and has been taped as an expert on drugs and behavior by CBS Evening News with Dan Rather.
Dr. LeFavi is often sought out as an expert on ergogenic aids, sport nutrition and supplementation, is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Certified Health Education Specialist, and is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. Presently, Dr.LeFavi is an Associate Professor in the graduate Sports Medicine program College of Health Professions, Armstrong Atlantic State University.
Dr. LeFavi is a newly ordained Episcopal priest charged with the Effingham mission. Rev. LeFavi received his doctorate from Auburn University and his Master of Divinity from Erskine Theological Seminary, SC. He has lived with his wife, Sue, and three children for 13 years.
